GREENWICH, Conn. -- Cos Cob-based Kids In Crisis announced Thursday it received a $7,000 grant from The People’s United Community Foundation, the philanthropic arm of People’s United Bank.

Kids in Crisis protects infants, children and teens from abuse and family crisis throughout Connecticut by providing free, round-the-clock, confidential crisis intervention, as well as counseling, emergency shelter, prevention programs, and advocacy. “We are so delighted to have People’s United partnering with us again this year. Kids in Crisis relies on community supporters such as People’s United, who understand that there are many children with critical needs right in our backyards, whose lives are changed for the better, every day, with the quality services we provide,” said Shari Shapiro, Executive Director of Kids in Crisis. The funding from People’s United Community Foundation will support educational services provided to each child residing in the organization’s shelters. Services include an educational assessment, the development and maintenance of an academic student profile, school transition assistance, tutoring, transportation to and from school, after-school activities, and the facilitation of regular communication among all professionals serving each child. “Kids in Crisis plays a critical role in helping to stabilize children who are going through an extremely difficult time in their lives,” said Karen Galbo, Marketing, Public and Community Relations Director for People’s United Community Foundation. ”Their work ensures that each child continues to attend school, is able to focus on scholastic and extra-curricular pursuits and has the opportunity to experience academic, social and emotional success.” Established in 2007, People’s United Community Foundation was formed to help support programs and activities that enhance the quality of life for citizens in the communities that People’s United Bank serves. People’s United Bank, founded in 1842 and serving customers from New York to Maine through a network of 412 branches, is the largest independent bank headquartered in New England.

Kids in Crisis is Connecticut’s only free, round-the-clock agency providing emergency shelter, crisis counseling and community educational programs for children of all ages and families dealing with a wide range of crises including domestic violence, mental health and family problems, substance abuse, economic difficulties and more.
