GREENWICH, Conn. — A fire destroyed homes on Binney Lane in Greenwich during the height of Hurricane Sandy Monday night.

"We were evacuated. My husband stayed in the house. The police came and took him out," Helen Lobrano, whose home burned, said Tuesday morning.

"I guess we thought the house was gone — all the other ones are, but the main thing is everyone’s fine, everyone’s safe," she said.

Flooding Monday night prevented firefighters from battling the blaze, published reports said.
