Greenwich Tops List Of Priciest Zip Codes In Connecticut

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Fairfield County towns dominate a recent ranking by PropertyShark.com of the most expensive zip codes in the state, with Greenwich's 06870 topping the list at No. 1.

The PropertyShark analysis used residential property sale data from 2016 to rank the most expensive zip codes by median sale prices. The Old Greenwich area with the 06870 zip code was the most expensive in the state with a median sale price of $1,375,000, and ranked No. 77 in the U.S. overall.

According to PropertyShark, the Nutmeg State had a modest year in 2016 in terms of residential sales, and Fairfield County saw a 15.3 percent drop in the luxury segment in the latter half of the year. But the county still had seven zip codes with median sales over $1 million, and another ten with median prices above $500,000.

Greenwich zip codes made four more appearances on the list, all in the top ten: 06830 (No. 2), 06878 (No. 6), 06807 (No. 8), and 06831 (No. 9). The 06830 zip code also had the top two biggest transactions in the state in 2016: a two-story, 18,142-square foot home on Indian Head Road that sold for $16,250,000 and a 6-bedroom home on Byram Drive that sold for $14,000,000.

Rounding out the top ten were: New Canaan's 06840 (No. 3), Darien's 06820 (No. 4), Norwalk's 06853 (No. 5), Westport's 06880 (No. 7), and Wilton's 06883 (No. 10).

Stamford's 06902, which ranked at No. 37 in the state, had the highest sales activity, with 542 transactions. Stamford appeared four other times on the ranking: 06903 (No. 12), 06905 (No. 22), 06907 (No. 23), and 06906 (No. 35). Norwalk also made another four appearances on the list: 06855 (No. 25), 06851 (No. 29), 06850 (No. 40) and 06854 (No. 50).

Other Fairfield County towns that made appearances on the list included: Easton (No. 16), Fairfield (Nos. 13, 14 and 26), Monroe (No. 47), Newtown (Nos. 29 and 43), Redding (No. 18), Ridgefield (No. 15), Sherman (No. 33), Trumbull (No. 39) and Wilton (No. 11)
