Greenwich Teen Hit By Train Identified; Memorial Service Set

GREENWICH, Conn. — A memorial service will be held this weekend for a Greenwich teen who was struck and killed by a train in Cos Cob early Sunday morning.

The teen has been identified as 17-year-old Nicholas Del Priore, who was memorialized with a moment of silence at the start of the Greenwich High School graduation ceremony on Tuesday, according to Greenwich Time .

Del Priore was struck and killed by a train near the Cos Cob station at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, according to Metro-North. He was hit by a southbound train that departed New Haven at 10:45 p.m. On Monday he was identified as a junior at Greenwich High School, though at that time his name was not released.

Frederico, Doris and Isabella Del Priore will remember the life of their son and brother Nicholas with a ceremony on Saturday. It will be held at 11 a.m. at the Second Congregational Church, located at 139 East Putnam Ave. in Greenwich. In celebration of his colorful and creative life, attendees are encourage to wear casual attire.

"Nic was adored by his family and friends, loved by his teachers at Greenwich High School, and had a profound and positive influence on those around him," his family wrote. "He sought to serve his community through his many charitable efforts, including as a longstanding member of Roots & Shoots and as a regular volunteer at Greenwich Hospital."

In keeping with his dedication to helping others, those who wish to are encouraged to make a donation in his memory to the Child Guidance Center of Southern Connecticut or the Jane Goodall Institute. The respective donation pages can be found here and here , and Del Priore's name can be entered under the memorial gift option.

Non-perishable food items for Neighbor to Neighbor will also be collected at the church on Saturday for those who wish to contribute.
