GREENWICH, Conn. Greenwichs State Rep. Fred Camillo visited Dichello Distributors campus to learn firsthand about the beer and wine industry in light of recent legislative proposals.
Distributors obtain beer and wine from manufacturers, take inventory, and deliver it to retailers. Dichello, based in Orange, has the largest work force of any distributor in Connecticut, with 215 employees who service Fairfield County, New Haven County, parts of Middlesex County and the Town of New Milford. Edward Crowley, president of Dichello, explained that it is one of 10 distribution companies in the state.
There is a lot to be learned about this business and I appreciated Ed taking the time out of his week to explain ... this very specialized field and how it is impacted for better or for worse by our current state laws, said Camillo.
The state Legislature has been considering sweeping changes to Connecticuts liquor laws to not only introduce alcohol sales on Sundays, but to fundamentally change how alcohol is sold in Connecticut.
There can be several additional challenges small businesses must face as a result of state laws, Camillo said in a prepared statement. Sometimes, a small change results in a large disruption that causes more harm than good. I am committed to finding workable solutions to help Connecticut employers thrive while at the same time balancing the needs of everyone in our state.
