Greenwich Ranked Among Safest Communities In Connecticut

GREENWICH, Conn. -- Greenwich recently was named the ninth-safest community in Connecticut by Value Penguin, a personal finance research and analysis site.

Value Penguin sourced all of its data from FBI violent and property crime statistics from 2012. Violent crimes were given a heavier weight (90 percent) versus property crimes (10 percent) to arrive at an overall "crime score." The lower the crime score, the safer the municipality.

Greenwich boasted a "crime score" of 93, well below the state average of 336.

The five safest communities all were in Fairfield County with Ridgefield taking the top spot, followed by: Easton, Darien, Wilton and Redding.

The rest of Fairfield County communities were ranked as follows:

No. 6: Weston
No. 8: New Canaan
No. 24: Westport
No. 48: Fairfield
No. 54: Danbury
No. 71: Stamford
No. 77: Norwalk
No 87: Bridgeport

The least safest communities were New Haven and Hartford with crime scores of 1,798 and 1,622, respectively.
