GREENWICH, Conn.- Greenwich took a beating Thursday night during a fast-moving storm, leaving about 314 customers still without power as of 11 a.m., the third most in the state, CL&P reported.

Despite Greenwich's high rank, the outages are only effecting about 1 percent of customers, according to CL&P. The town joins the ranks of Weston and Ridgefield. Weston ranks the highest with more than 600 customers without power.

Reasons for the power outages in Greenwich include many downed trees and wires, said Mitch Gross, communications director at CL&P. He said most customers should expect to have their power back on by noon Friday.

"We're concentrating our efforts in southwestern Connecticut because that's the area that got hit the most," Gross said. Reports of outages started to roll in around 7 p.m. last night.

Gross also said the state was lucky, comparing the actual damage to what weather reports were saying Thursday afternoon.

"We dodges a very large bullet last night," he said.
