First Selectman Peter Tesei says a shutdown of the federal government would have little effect in Greenwich in the short term.
In terms of town services, I do not think there would be any substantive impact, Tesei said Thursday afternoon. Congress has until midnight Friday to agree on a funding measure for the federal government.
However, he said, residents who receive Medicaid services at Nathaniel Witherell may be affected if federal payments were not received in a timely manner. Im optimistic it would not be for such an extensive period of time where that would be a material problem, the first selectman said.
The only other service that would be affected, he said, would be the federally run stream-flow gauge on the Byram River. And this would be an issue to residents only in the event of a major flood.
