Greenwich High Fields Closed Due to Contaminants

GREENWICH, Conn. -- All the athletic fields at Greenwich High School will be closed until further notice due to contaminated soil, Schools Superintendent Dr. Sidney A. Freund announced Friday.

Soil tests indicated the presence of PCBs at depths from 0-1 foot, which is not acceptable for residential or commercial uses. More thorough testing will begin Monday to determine the extent of the contaminant risk. Once all results have been analyzed, decisions on field access will be made, Freund said in a statement released Friday afternoon.
