GREENWICH, Conn. -- For Greenwich, it was the blizzard that never was. But it still left a big mess in town.

Sound Beach Avenue in Old Greenwich was nearly deserted Tuesday afternoon after businesses closed for the day in anticipation of a major blizzard. Luckily, the area was spared the worst of the weather. But the town still spent most of the day digging out from the half-foot of snow that fell. Still, that was better than the 2 to 3 feet of snow in the forecast.

Greenwich Public Schools, however, will have a 90-minute delayed opened Wednesday.

The Board of Selectmen voted at noon Tuesday to end the snow emergency and the Emergency Operations Center was demobilized at noon as well.

Even after lifting the snow emergency, Greenwich encouraged residents to stay off the roadways as the cleanup continued.

Greenwich also reminded residents to clear sidewalks and plow their driveways.
