This time, they have eliminated a controversial "sports bubble" -- which some neighbors feared might be huge, unsightly and drive down property values. Game On 365 Sports is now proposing a year-round facility that looks more like a traditional building. They also would keep the golf driving range open.

Developers submitted their latest plans to the Town Board on Jan. 15, and will appear before board members at a Tuesday morning work session and possibly at Wednesday night's regular meeting.

Game On 365 Sports filed a petition to amend the zoning code to initiate a review of their proposal to build an indoor and outdoor privately-owned recreation facility on parts of the golf range at 701 Dobbs Ferry Road.

Velocity Sports Westchester, owned by Brian Fee and based in Elmsford, and On Track Sports, owned by Kevin Kaye and based in Tarrytown -- are both active members of the management group called Game On 365 Sports.

Currently, the property is not zoned to allow recreational uses. Their application states that “there is a  high demand for recreation and athletic space in the town, particularly for use by local school children and sports leagues.”  The project would include an indoor space housed in a permanent structure covering about 107,630 square feet of the approximately 32-acre property. The remaining land would be preserved as open space and used for recreation fields and related uses.

Game On 365 previously proposed building a sports bubble at the abandoned Frank’s Nursery at 715 Dobbs Ferry Road. That plan was approved by town residents in a public referendum but continued to face opposition and litigation. The latest proposal does not include any of the Frank's Nursery site.

This application is different. Game On now proposes a building instead of the previously proposed "air bubble" structure. Developers say this will reduce the height of the indoor facility and address some of the neighbors' aesthetic concerns.

"Members of the Town Board and I have not made any decisions on whether to approve or reject the petition," Greenburgh Supervisor Paul Feiner said.

The next step would be to refer this new proposal to the Planning Board for review and recommendation, according to Feiner.
