Former Greenwich Swim Coach Sentenced To 7 Years For Risk Of Injury

GREENWICH, Conn. -- A former teaching aide at Greenwich High School was sentenced to seven years in prison for trying to molest a child at the town's Boys & Girls Club, Hearst Connecticut Media reported.

Andrew Knapp, 31, of Riverside was found guilty of trying to molest a 10-year-old swimming student in the showers of the club in 2010, Hearst said. He was sentenced on Tuesday in state Superior Court in Stamford.

He must also put his name on the state’s Sex Offender Registry for 10 years after his prison release and serve five years on probation.

A jury convicted Knapp on a felony charge of risk of injury to a child in early August, Hearst said, but failed to convict him of fourth-degree sexual assault.

In a statement he read before the sentencing, Knapp apologized to the youth and his family for his bad judgment, Hearst said.
