Kristina Pydynowski, a senior meteorologist with Accuweather.com, said much colder air and perhaps snowflakes are on the way for the metropolitan New York area early Tuesday.
But the early morning flakes could affect the commute on Tuesday and even school starts, weather experts warned. The prediction for early Tuesday calls for a chance of rain turning to snow after 3 a.m. with overnight lows of about 30 degrees, the National Weather Service said.
Connecticut State Police warned commuters via Twitter @CT_STATE_POLICE of the possible morning dangers. "Leave plenty of time for your commute tomorrow [Tuesday] morning. Slick roads expected. Always keep a safe distance behind the car in front of you."
The chance of precipitation is 50 percent, with total nighttime snow accumulation of less than a half-inch possible, it said.
It will be only a taste of winter, not like the nor'easter that struck Fairfield County in early November last year, leaving a thick blanket of wet snow.
Despite the possibly wet and snowy start to Tuesday, the rest of the day will be cloudy but gradually become mostly sunny, with a high of only about 40 degrees.
