Fairfield County Roads May See Black Ice, Blowing Snow Sunday

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Many roads across Fairfield County remained impassable or treacherous from the heavy snowfall, the National Weather Service warned Saturday evening. 

Gusty northwest winds overnight were expected to produce blowing and drifting snow at times, limiting visibility, the weather service warned. 

Also, black ice could develop on roads that have been plowed and treated as the snowmelt refreezes, it said.  

Travel was not recommended overnight. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy lifted a statewide travel ban as of 4 p.m. Saturday but still recommended that residents stay off the road. 

Nearly two feet of snow fell across Fairfield County on Friday and early Saturday. After an overnight with lows near zero, the area was expected to experience sunny skies and high temperatures of about 32 degrees on Sunday, the weather service said.
