Eileen Taska, Psychoeducational Therapist

Eileen R. Taska, a former Greenwich resident, died Jan. 23 at the age of 72. Taska grew up in New Milford, N.J., and graduated from Hackensack High School in 1950.

She married her husband, Frederick, in 1956 and moved to Greenwich, where they lived for more than 45 years. Taska went to Goddard College, Cooper Union, the College of New Rochelle and Union Graduate School, earning her doctorate in 1975. For more than 20 years, Taska had a private psychoeducational therapist practice in town, working with many children.

Taska was an artist and sculptor and was inspired by the works of Michelangelo. She studied gross anatomy at Yale Medical School in the 1970s to perfect her knowledge. Her carvings in wood and stone are held in private and family art collections.

In her spare time, Taska was an accomplished cellist and in her youth played with the New Jersey All-State Orchestra and Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra.

For the last seven years of her life Eileen resided at Gorham House in Gorham, Maine.

Taska is survived by her children, Lynn Taska and husband Glen Carleton, Todd Taska and wife Cindy, Heidi Taska-Tench and husband Jonathan Tench, and Gretel Taska; brother, Ronald Johnson and wife Joan Johnson; and five grandchildren. Dolby and Dorr Funeral Chapel in Maine handled funeral arrangements. Service will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Cooper Union, Office of External Affairs, 30 Cooper Union Square, New York, NY 10003.
