Drunken Arrest, Property Sale Tops The Week's News In Greenwich

GREENWICH, Conn. -- The arrest of a mom and the sale of retail properties topped the news in the past week in Greenwich. Here is a look at other events that happened in town.

? A Greenwich woman was charged with risk of injury to a minor when she was found walking on Hamilton Avenue with her child while drunk, police said. 

? The state issued a voluntary recall of shellfish harvested from certain areas off Norwalk and Westport’s shores dating back to July 3, and shut down recreational shellfishing in those two towns plus Darien. The recall stems from a species of bacteria feared to be on the rise in Long Island Sound.

? Greenwich Public Schools appointed Carmen Vargas-Guevara as the new assistant principal of the Hamilton Avenue Elementary School. She comes to Greenwich from Northbridge, Mass., where she was the assistant principal of W. Edward Balmer Elementary School. 

? Greenwich-based Urstadt Biddle Properties bought two retail properties on Putnam Avenue in Greenwich for $18 million: the 9,300-square-foot retail strip mall located at 125-143 W. Putnam Ave. anchored by a Stop & Shop Supermarket and Cos Cob Plaza at 393-407 E. Putnam Ave. with a Jos A. Bank.

? An employee of the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury pleaded guilty to having sex with an inmate and faces up to 15 years in prison himself.
