Daniel J McNeil, Greenwich WWII Veteran

Daniel Joseph McNeil died at his home in Greenwich last week at the age of 89. McNeil served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant with the Coast Artillery Battalion in the Panama Canal Zone from August 1942 to October 1945.

McNeil was born July 6, 1921, in Greenwich and graduated from Greenwich High School in 1939. He married the love of his life, Ethel Balog, in 1951. She died in 1985 after a long battle with cancer. McNeil had a long career as the sales manager with Suburban Cadillac of Stamford. He was an avid Notre Dame football fan.

He is survived by his children, Beth-Anne Christopher and her husband Richard of Illinois, son Daniel and wife Julia of Delaware; and six grandsons.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday at Sacred Heart Church in Byram. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of McNeil’s wife to the American Cancer Society , P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
