FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The deadline for Connecticut residents to apply for assault weapon certificates and declare large-capacity magazines is Tuesday, Dec. 31, the State Police announced.

Under the state's new gun laws enacted after the Sandy Hook Elementary School killings, residents of Connecticut must apply for assault weapons certificates and declare large capacity magazines by the deadline. The form to apply for an assault weapon certificate is separate from the large capacity magazine declaration form.

The assault-weapons form (DPS-414C) is available on the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection's website. It must be accompanied by a proof of purchase or a notarized affidavit, attesting to the date that the weapon was purchased before the legislation took effect. After the form is processed, the applicant will receive a certificate number, and the form will be returned.

The large-capacity magazine form (DESPP-78CC) can also be found on the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection's website. A proof of purchase or a notarized affidavit, attesting to the date that the weapon was purchased before the legislation took effect, must accompany the form. The department will not issue a return notification on the form and suggests that residents submit their application in person or via registered mail.

All forms must be received or postmarked by Tuesday, Dec. 31.

The new regulations are the result of gun control legislation signed into law by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy in April. The legislation added more than 100 firearms to the state's assault weapons ban and created what officials have called the nation's first dangerous weapon offender registry.

It also includes a ban on new high-capacity ammunition magazines such as the ones used in the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown that left 20 children and six educators dead. There are also new registration requirements for existing magazines that carry 10 or more bullets

The republican right wingers and the NRA need to take responsibility for the destruction their agenda has caused

58 Murders a Year by Firearms in Britain, 8,775 in US

Police: 4 dead after La. shootings, 3 injured
LOCKPORT, La. (AP) — A nurse embroiled in a custody fight with his ex-wife attacked his former in-laws, his onetime boss at a hospital that fired him and his current wife in a rampage that spanned two parishes in Louisiana, leaving three dead before killing himself, authorities said.

Ken P Jr:

They won't even try it. The liberals are mostly cowardly little people who sneak around in the shadow on things like this. If they were to try repealing it they could no longer LIE and say they don't want to violate our rights.
No, instead these lowlifes pass laws which in a just world wouldn't get a single vote, because they violate our civil rights.

Anybody who thinks our forefathers didn't think people were capable of mass murder is an idiot at best. They knew full well the dangers of society & thats why they built the second amendment right into our founding documents. They couldn't know what the future would bring. But there is no reason to think they wouldn't want us armed equal to the military standard of our time. After all they did not limit themselves to inferior weaponry.
Nobody has stretched the meaning of "the right to keep & bear arms", stating that is absurd. We have restricted it honestly to the point of non existence. By that I mean is it a right if in EVERY instance you need to beg permission? Is it a right if you need a permit to carry one in EVERY instance? If you need a permit to not only carry but to buy ANY gun? If you need a permit to simply buy ammunition?
No, our right to live free from oppression was voted away a little at a time in this state and in April any semblance of it being a right disappeared.
The ironic thing is gun control & liberal policy are more responsible for Sandy Hook than any gun owner, even Nancy Lanza, will ever be. And if it happens again, and it will, the parents of those kids, who have been ferried around in a grand antigun dog and pony show, will have blood on their hands.
See, theres no question that if you prevent people from defending themselves you assume responsibility for their safety, and if you do nothing and they are hurt the blame lies squarely on you. Our forefathers knew that the BEST way was to ensure everyone had a right to defend themselves, because they could not defend us all, the same is true today. If gun free school laws are good by themselves you might ask why the gun free zone our legislators work in is protected by real assault rifles & the newly named truly evil LCMs which us mere peasants, the ones getting killed, aren't allowed to have.
The stupidity of the common CT resident in this regard is pathetic at best.

Elizabeth G:

You seem to have issued with anger management issues. Clearly you are unfit to have a gun yet you seem to be obsessed with them. It is your type that is responsible for all the recent mass shootings.

Go ahead and try to repeal the second amendment. If the American people wish to do that, so be it. Failing that, stop trying to violate it with laws that "infringe" upon the people's right to keep and bear arms. Those of us who believe in our rights, under that amendment, will now do our best to get rid of politicians that take that right away, including the present governor and senators. This registration scheme is the "first step" toward confiscation of weapons that were lawfully and stupidly registered by people like me. After the next atrocity by a lunatic, they will know where to come to get the guns. They will NOT get them.

Ken P Jr:

If you honestly believe that you are truly clueless. The truth is ALL gun laws with any restrictions are infringing the 2nd amendment & therefore invalid.
And simply because they are enforced means nothing. Nobody not already prejudiced by politics can read the second amendment and not know its intent was unfettered access to arms and being able to carry them wherever we wanted.

Broad River:

There is no law at all that says you must pay federal income taxes. Ignore it.

M3 Driver:

So Kenny What you are basically saying is that the 2nd amendment should be repealed...I agree

M3Driver: I hope you meant "repeal." Agreed, in most instances. Our forefathers would not have seen the need for people to be armed to the teeth with weapons capable of killing and maiming dozens of others in practically an instant. When they wrote the second amendment, pistols and rifles were used to defend against wild animals, pirates, poachers, intruders, British soldiers, etc. -- not to commit mass murders. People have stretched the meaning of "the right to bear arms" way beyond its original context.

M3 Driver:

Thanks for the typo correction.. Also excellent post.

"typo" you mean the spelling lesson?

M3 Driver:

We must repeat the second amendment
