FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Heavy rain and gusty winds could make for tough travel on Fairfield County roadways on Christmas Eve.

Rain will cover most of the east coast on Monday and Tuesday with temperatures expected to be in the mid 40s.

A cold front could be driven into the region on Christmas Eve and bring heavy rain, possibly damaging winds and a thunderstorm or two to the I-95 corridor.

Severe weather could create significant delays at major travel hubs in the northeast all the way to Chicago, weather.com said.

Precipitation is expected to clear out of the tristate area for Christmas day but areas north and west out to the Great Lakes could still see wind and ice creating travel problems.
