Brain Surgery Defense Offered in Greenwich Theft

GREENWICH, Conn. -- The lawyer for a Manhattan fashion designer charged June 14 with stealing an $11,000 fur-lined scarf from Richards on Greenwich Avenue says she has been acting bizarrely since undergoing brain surgery, The Greenwich Time reports. Mark Sherman, the lawyer for socialite Beata Boman, attributes the theft to a behavioral change after the surgery.

Boman turned herself in Sunday on an oustanding warrant for larceny, from an earlier incident on June 11 where Boman allegedly stole a $725 Lorna Piana scarf at Richard's. Boman was identified through video surveillance. She was released on a $500 bond and is due in court Aug. 1.
