Armonk Square Agreement Reached

Michael Fareri, the Armonk developer who filed a petition against Armonk Square, has reached an agreement with Armonk Square developer Dominick Dioguardi to allow the project to proceed. The deal paves the way for the construction of a new Armonk supermarket to replace the A&P, which is about to close.

Town Supervisor Howard Arden made the announcement at the end of Wednesday night's Town Board meeting.

"The project could have been delayed for 18 months," Arden said. "It's a delicate situation and a $30 million project and now, without bad weather, we'll have a new grocery store in town by next Christmas."

Bob Green, chair of the North Castle Planning Board, was instrumental in negotiating with Fareri and Dioguradi to secure the agreement. He said compromises were made on both sides to protect Fareri's property rights in the areas surrounding Armonk Square while allowing Dioguardi broad rights to develop the space.

"Both Mike and Dominic were terrific," Green said.

The agreement paves the way for the construction of Armonk Square and its anchor tenant, DeCicco's Family Market. For months, the opening of the supermarket seemed up in the air after Fareri had filed an Article 78 petition against the Town of North Castle and the developers of Armonk Square. The petition had been pending in New York State Supreme Court.

Arden said he would sign the agreement soon, but didn't provide an exact date because his signature will follow the other parties.
