Apple Mania Hits Greenwich Avenue

Thursday was a day Apple fans had been anticipating. As a matter of fact, they couldn't wait for the day to begin, so that they started it on Wednesday evening. All the excitement was over the release of the iPhone 4.

The iPhone went on sale at 7 a.m. across the U.S. By 8 p.m. Wednesday, Apple goers began setting up camp outside the Greenwich store. Brandon Emery and Akeen Cowan, local Greenwich residents, geared up for the long night ahead of them, "We took turns staying in line," Emery said. "One of us would sleep in the car while the other waited in line."

The crowd was so large it was divided into two lines. By 6:45 a.m. there were an estimated 330 people waiting on the reserved line and over 500 in the regular line. Apple has said that the iPhone 4 will change how we commute. Again. The new phone features video calling, HD video recording, a 5-megapixel camera and the ability to use multiple apps without draining the battery.

"I'm looking forward to the new design and the video calling," Mike Razmen said, who arrived around 2 a.m. "Most of the crowd started to pour in between midnight and 3 a.m. It's worth the wait. "

As 7 a.m. approached, Apple employees began energizing themselves and the customers for the opening of the store. Each employee greeted guests at the door and took them individually to purchase their new iPhone 4.

Excited, yet exhausted customers emerged from the store with their new gadget. "Staying out here was just awful," said Emery. "I haven't played around with the iPhone yet. I just want to go to bed. All I know is that is was well worth the wait."
