Former Greenwich resident Albert F. Ayres died Jan. 5 at Richard Rosenthal Hospice Center in Stamford. Ayres was born in Greenwich and graduated from Greenwich High School and Iona College.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the China-Burma-India theater with the 1305th U.S. Army Air Force Base Unit. After his return home, he went to work for Coca-Cola. He spent his entire career in the soft drink industry, later becoming secretary and treasurer of the Canada Dry Bottling Company in Stamford. He retired as a senior financial analyst for PepsiCo.
During his free time, Ayres enjoyed traveling with his wife of 58 years, Patricia, gardening and reading. He was recently honored and selected to attend the American Warrior "Day of Honor" in Washington, D.C., alongside 102 other World War II veterans.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, are three daughters, Melissa Elias, Pamela Vieser and Stephanie Dumas and eight grandchildren. A Mass was held on Jan. 10 at St. Leo Church in Stamford. Interment was at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien.
