The salon, located at 268 Mason St. in Greenwich, established the Leadership Award last year to honor outstanding leaders in the community who are making a difference.

The Becker Salon Leadership Award is given to leaders, male or female, of 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations of any size in Fairfield and Westchester counties.  Leaders are chosen who are successfully fulfilling a mission and who demonstrate passion and commitment to a cause.

“We want to recognize those who do so much to make our communities better,” salon owner Becker Chicaiza said in a release. “This is our way to say thank you and give back to those leaders who do not often receive recognition for their efforts.”

Award winners receive a complimentary Becker Salon experience -- a haircut, color and style, a plaque and a donation to their organization. A Greenwich resident for over ten years, Wax joined the YWCA Greenwich board in 2010 and currently serves as Vice Chair Development. Last year, she was Vice Chair Events. She was also the co-chair of the Old Bags luncheon in 2011 and 2012. After a decade-long career in the financial sector, which included positions with KPMG, Rothschild Inc and WL Ross & Co, Wax has devoted her professional skills to charitable organizations, such as the Fashion Institute of Technology where she is a trustee, the Bruce Museum, Silver Hill Hospital and Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. In addition, she and her therapy dogs have long been helping patients and children at Greenwich Hospital, Silver Hill Hospital, Hamilton Avenue School and New Lebanon School.

Wax is currently co-chairing the 2014 Breast Cancer Alliance benefit luncheon and is a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Greenwich. Last year, the Becker Salon Leadership Award went to Shari Shapiro, Executive Director of Kids in Crisis, Lucy Day, a founding member and former president of the Breast Cancer Alliance, and Kevin Plancher, MD, founder and Chairman of the Board of the Orthopaedic Foundation. This year, four leaders will be honored.

Becker Salon enables clients to cast a vote for their choice of leaders through its website and social media. Chicaiza, along with Deborah Elam of GE, assist in the final decision.
