David Ormsby, chairman of the Friends of Nathaniel Witherell, presented Greenwich First Selectman Peter J. Tesei with a check for $1.75 million. That is part of the Friends' promise to raise $7 million over four years to help Greenwich fund Project Renew. The Friends also contributed $1 million in June 2013.

Project Renew is scheduled to be completed in September. Total construction costs are projected at $26 million.

"The Friends of Nathaniel Witherell believe that the $4.065 million raised to date for Project Renew from private citizens, and the up to $5.8 million raised from other sources, continues one of our town's finest traditions, which is a public/private partnership to support Greenwich's extraordinary institutions," said Ormsby.

Project Renew will increase the number of private rooms from 26 to 64, eliminate 10 four-bedroom rooms and covers remodeling and redecorating of 86 resident rooms. The rehab center doubled in size, which increased family reception areas. Three existing elevators were modernized and a fourth was added.

Nathaniel Witherell is a short-term rehab and nursing center located on 24 acres two miles from downtown Greenwich. It was recently recognized as “one of the best nursing homes in Connecticut” by U.S. News & World Report.
