Dan Meyer will explain how he perfected his skills in sword swallowing in a lecture and performance at the Bruce Museum .
Meyer began his quest in sword swallowing in 1998 when he learned that there were fewer than a dozen sword swallowers left in the world. Three years of research and practice has led him to swallowing steel swords up to 30 inches long and up to eight swords at once.
Despite once puncturing his stomach while swallowing five swords at once, Meyer still continues his craft, much to the intrigue of his audiences. "I enjoy performing real feats that people think are impossible in order to demonstrate how incredible the human body really is," he said. The talent landed the 53-year-old a total of five Guinness World Records and was featured on "Ripley's Believe It Or Not." Meyer is president of the Sword Swallowing Association. The event is scheduled for 3 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Bruce Museum. Tickets are $7 for adults and $6 for students and seniors. Children 5 and under are free. For more information, call (203) 869-0376.
