Santa's Reindeer Are Coming to Town

Dancer, Prancer, Comet and Blitzen are returning later this month just in time for the Second Annual Greenwich Reindeer Festival and Santa’s Workshop.

The festival kicks off Friday, Nov. 26, at 2 p.m. with Santa leading one of his four reindeer down Greenwich Avenue accompanied by the Kids in Crisis Youth Corps, police, firemen, First Selectman Peter Tesei and other Greenwich names and faces. The procession ends at McArdle's Florist and Garden Center, where the reindeer will stay for one month. The holiday celebration is presented by Mercedes-Benz of Greenwich as a benefit for Kids in Crisis.

"This event really brings the holiday magic to life and we are thrilled to be the host again this year," said the garden center's James McArdle Jr. Festival hours are Monday through Friday, noon to 5:30 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Reindeer feedings will take place daily at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The month-long event is a great opportunity for kids and families to have their photo taken with Santa at his workshop. Photo packages begin at $29.99 and include coupons for participating Greenwich stores. Merchandise including handmade chocolates from La Dolce Vita Chocolates as well as plush reindeer will be on sale. Proceeds will go to Kids in Crisis.

"We hope everyone will come out and enjoy this great holiday tradition in Greenwich and at the same time support our mission," Shari Shapiro, executive director of Kids in Crisis, said in a prepared statement.

This year's festival will also feature private appearances by Santa and one of his reindeer. For costs and to schedule a visit, call (203) 531-3047. The event is being created and produced by TMK Sports and Entertainment, a Greenwich-based marketing company.
