Retired Greenwich Librarian Receives State Award For Service To Children

GREENWICH, Conn. – Alice Sherwood, recently retired as head of children’s services at the Greenwich Library, was honored April 28 with the Faith Hektoen Award at the 2015 Annual Connecticut Library Association Conference.

This prestigious award is given annually by the children’s section of the association to recognize the efforts of an individual or group that has made an impact on library services to children in Connecticut at the local, regional, or state level.

In nominating Sherwood for the award, library colleagues cited her introduction of the baby lap sit program, the ready for reading kits, the junior book club for grades 4-6, the bookworms book club for grades 2-3 and the reorganization of the picture book room for better browsing by popular concepts and subjects.

“Alice Sherwood led by example, putting the child first, and carried a devotion and passion for children’s services in her 14 years as head of this dynamic department at Greenwich Library,” the nomination form said.
