NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- The New Canaan Library is set to host Reza Aslan as the guest lecturer for the UN Committee Lecture at 3 p.m. Sunday.
Aslan, an internationally acclaimed writer and a scholar of religions who has recently appeared on several major media outlets to discuss his new book "Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth," will give the guest lecture at the Seldin Performing Arts Center at St. Luke's School in New Canaan.
Aslan holds degrees in religions from Santa Clara University, Harvard University and the University of California, Santa Barbara; as well as a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Iowa, where he was named the Truman Capote Fellow in Fiction. Aslan is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Los Angeles Institute for the Humanities and the Pacific Council on International Policy.
In addition to his writings and work with AslanMedia.com, Aslan serves on the board of directors of the Ploughshares Fund, which "gives grants for peace and security issues," according to the release.
Aslan's first book was the international best seller, "No God but God: The Origins, Evolution, and Future of Islam," which has been translated into 13 languages, and named one of the 100 most important books of the last decade, representatives said in the release. He is also the author of "How to Win a Cosmic War."
The New Canaan Library will co-sponsor the lecture at the Seldin Performing Arts Center at St. Luke's School, 377 North Wilton Road, New Canaan. Early registration is suggested as a large audience is expected and space is limited.
This program is free and open to the public and there is a suggested donation of $10.
