Hurvitz will receive recognition "for his continued support and partnership with the organization and for his 20 years of rabbinic service within the greater community on behalf of people of all faiths," according to a press release.

The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at the Ritz Carlton Westchester in White Plains, N.Y. Frank Linde, AJC national and regional board member, will also be honored during the ceremony.

"The partnership between Rabbi Mitch of Temple Sholom and AJC has been the genesis of numerous events which provided cultural insight and enrichment to the public," a press release said. "Most recently, Rabbi Mitch and Temple Sholom of Greenwich, Conn., hosted Shahar Azani, the consul for media affairs and consulate general of Israel in New York, to lecture at the temple. The speaker examined the perception, reality and response of the international media, as it pertains to Israel."

David Harris, AJC’s national director, spoke about strengthening links among Jews and other global groups to coordinate advocacy efforts and advance democratic values for all.

“When David Harris spoke at Temple Sholom,” said Hurvitz, “it was a highlight for our community. His insider’s perspective on the turmoil and transformation in the Middle East was both insightful and thought-provoking. I look forward to continuing our friendship and partnership with AJC.”

The AJC Gala will feature a teen choral performance lead by Cantor Asa Fradkin of Temple Sholom. The choir will perform a musical tribute that celebrates Yom Yerushalayim (Jerusalem Day) and honors Hurvitz and his accomplishments.
