Greenwich Police Chief James Heavey is expected to discuss the “larger range of actions” now taken by local police officers as they respond “in today’s turbulent world,” according to a statement from the Retired Men’s Association of Greenwich, Inc., which is sponsoring the event.
While speaking, Heavey, a veteran of Operation Desert Shield who served as a military police officer in the U.S. Army Reserve for more than 20 years, will rely on his decades of experience with Greenwich police as well as his training from the National FBI Academy, according to organizers.
Heavey joined Greenwich police in 1981 as a dispatcher and has spent the past 36 years rising through the department’s ranks. He became a sergeant in 1999, a lieutenant in 2003, a captain in 2010 and was selected as chief of the department in 2011, according to event organizers.
The police chief holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration and recently earned a master’s degree in public administration from Bellevue University in Nebraska, organizers said.
