Greenwich Hospital Gerontologist Joins Panel Discussion On Dementia

NEW CAANAN, Conn. – The New Canaan Library will host a panel discussion on "Dementia: A Primer for Families and Caregivers" on May 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the library's Adrian Lamb Room.

The panel is aimed toward the families of persons with dementia as well as seniors and their children seeking to learn about the disease. 

The program is co-sponsored by The Alliance of Business Professionals and Staying Put in New Caanan. 

Panelists include Dr. Stephen Jones, gerontologist and Director of Greenwich Hospital’s Center for Healthy Aging; Tania Paparazzo, southwest regional director of the Alzheimer’s Association, CT Chapter, Norwalk; Kathleen Toombs, family therapist; and Michelle Lee Beltrano, registered nurse and attorney with areas of practice in health, elder law and probate, Greenwich, both of whom are members of the New Canaan-based Alliance of Business Professionals.

Jones will describe the signs, behaviors, medications and research related to dementia. 

Paparazzo will discuss services offered by the Alzheimer's Association and ways to work with dementia's communication barriers. 

Toombs will present “The Impact of Dementia on the Entire Family" and Beltrano will address legal issues. 

Following the discussion, the panelists will take questions from the audience.
