GREENWICH, Conn. -- Greenwich children are receiving free meals this summer thanks to a grant given to Neighbor to Neighbor.

The grant from the Bishops’ Fund for Children supports Neighbor to Neighbor's summer supplement program.

More than 13 percent of Greenwich public school students are eligible to receive free and reduced-price meals during the school year. Neighbor to Neighbor's Summer Supplement program seeks to bridge the gap left in the summer months by the absence of school lunches and provide a seamless safety net for vulnerable families in the community.

More than 600 Greenwich children have received additional healthy food this summer, including peanut butter and jelly, tuna, fruits and vegetables.

The Bishops’ Fund for Children was established by the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut in 1994 to enhance awareness of the plight of children at risk throughout Connecticut. Proceeds from the Bishops’ Fund underwrite social service programs that aid these children. The fund has granted more than $2.5 million to date.

Neighbor to Neighbor is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving residents in need throughout the Greenwich area. It aims to improve lives by providing for the exchange of food, clothing and basic living essentials in an atmosphere of kindness and respect.
