Music Under the Stars Returns to Greenwich

GREENWICH, Conn. -- Croon along to lounge songs or kick up your heels to country, show tunes and Beatles classics at Greenwich’s Wednesday Night Concert Series. The shows are free and held under the stars at Greenwich parks through August.  So bring a picnic dinner, a blanket and the rest of the family.

The next concert is Wednesday, July 20, 7:30 to 9 p.m. at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park, 100 Arch St., with Steve D'Agostino . A fan of The Great American Songbook, D’Agostino has been singing Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin and Tony Bennett for over 20 years,  staying true to tradition of the music but adding his own flair. Rain date is Thursday, July 21.

Greenwich’s own Bob Button Orchestra and the 10-piece R&B band Billy and the Showmen kicked off the music last month.

The award-winning country band Gunsmoke performs at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park on Wednesday, July 27, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Rain date is July 28. Gunsmoke has also been entertaining more than 20 years, performing country and western tunes at fairs, festivals, clubs and in concerts. The band has performed with legends such as Willie Nelson, Hank Williams Jr., Merle Haggard and Buck Owens and has also played for two sitting presidents. It has been voted Band of the Year by the New York Metropolitan Country Music Association six years in a row.

The 40 local musicians of the Sound Beach Community Band will perform pop, marches and show tunes on Sunday, July 24, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Binney Park.

The Beatles tribute band Octopuses Garden wraps up the series Aug. 3, 7:30 to 9 p.m., at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park. Their show is sponsored by Adopt-A-Dog Greenwich.

The series is presented by the Department of Parks and Recreation. For rain cancellation information, call (203) 618-7650 after 4 p.m. the day of the concert.
