The donation was made through the Vince and Linda McMahon Family Foundation, based in Stamford.

“[We’re] proud to join folks from the Westport Weston Family Y as they work toward building a new community center,” a message on the Linda McMahon official Facebook page said. “I know it will be a great space for people of all ages to exercise, relax and have fun. The Vince and Linda McMahon Family Foundation is happy to support it."

The Family Y received another $1 million donation recently from a local philanthropist who wishes to remain anonymous, Family Y CEO Rob Reeves said.

With these two donations, and several other recent significant donations, the Y has raised $12 million through its “Building What Matters” capital campaign launched in January 2011, Y officials said. Less than $3 million needs to be raised to fully fund the $38.5 million facility currently under construction at the Y’s Mahackeno campus.

“We thank the McMahons and their foundation for their leadership gift, and we sincerely hope to be able to publicly thank our other ‘million-dollar angel’ at the appropriate time,” Reeves said in a statement.

Last month, the Family Y broke ground on construction of a 54,000-square-foot building at Mahackeno. This building, the first phase of construction on a total 102,000-square-foot facility, will boast a 10-lane lap pool, a warm-water family/teaching pool, a health and wellness center, a multi-purpose gymnasium, three group fitness studios, a Child Watch/Kids’ Adventure Gym area, five locker rooms and other amenities.

Bulk excavation for the foundation is nearly complete and crews are expected to pour the concrete foundation early next month, Y officials said. Construction on this building is expected to be completed in late 2014.

Y officials are continuing to reach out to local foundations, businesses and individuals for significant donations. Anyone interested in donation on a smaller level can do so through the “Picture Yourself at the New Family Y” project.

Launched earlier this year, the project involves the creation of a large wall mural that’s composed of thousands of individual photographs of Y members and supporters. The mural will be displayed at the new facility.
