Jewish Family Services Of Greenwich Receives $5,500 Grant

GREENWICH, Conn. -- Jewish Family Services of Greenwich (JFS) is happy to announce the award of a $5,500 grant from The Community Development Office of the Town of Greenwich.

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) is one of the formula grant programs administered by the Community Planning and Development of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

This program provides annual grants on a formula basis to eligible grantees (cities and counties) for the purpose of addressing the needs established by the local communities by providing decent housing, suitable living environment and expanding economic opportunities for low- and moderate-income persons and families.

The town receives entitlement grants (CDBG funds) to carry out a wide range of community development activities to improve community facilities and services through sub-recipients.

Supermarketing for Seniors is a free grocery shopping and case management program established in 1986 in response to the needs of a growing number of frail and elderly Greenwich residents who wanted to continue to live quality, independent lives in their own homes but were unable to do so without assistance in doing their marketing.

Although it was started by and is run by Jewish Family Services of Greenwich, Supermarketing for Seniors serves individuals of all backgrounds The only eligibility requirement is that a person be 60 years or older and live in the Town of Greenwich. There is no fee for this service.
