During severe snow events, the Board of Selectman has the option to declare a state of emergency and if the board decides to declare an emergency; a parking ban is immediately enacted. Once a parking ban is enacted, the declaration prohibits motor vehicle owners from parking their vehicles on designated snow emergency streets. Motorists should seek parking alternatives, such as non-snow emergency streets or preferably municipal parking lots with the exception of Town Hall.

Please note, if your vehicle is found parked on a snow emergency street during an enacted parking ban, your vehicle may be ticketed or possibly towed for the duration of the ban. The Highway Division recently recognized 28 new snow emergency streets in addition to the current 60 snow emergency streets identified in the Town Charter and Code. The Board of Selectman recognized the 28 new streets as essential access roads that needed to be cleared for the safe passage of pedestrians, passenger and emergency vehicles. The board formally adopted the changes the changes at its Feb. 5 meeting.
