GREENWICH, Conn. -- Happy birthday to Greenwich’s Linda Marie McMahon!
McMahon, who lives in Greenwich, turns 66 on Saturday. The professional wrestling magnate and a Republican Party candidate, was born Oct. 4, 1948, in New Bern, N.C.
She started her career as a receptionist at the corporate law firm of Covington & Burling.
She later developed her career in WWE with her husband, Vince McMahon, and the McMahon family name is now synonymous with the wrestling industry.
She has made occasional screen appearances, most notably in a wrestling feud with her husband, which climaxed at WrestleMania X-Seven.
She left WWE in 2009 and was the 2012 Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate seat in Connecticut to replace retiring Sen. Joe Lieberman. She lost the race.
She continued to serve on the board of the Close Up Foundation, a nonprofit that offers youth field trips to Washington, D.C., and joined APCO Worldwide as a member of the firm's International Advisory Council.
In 2014 it was announced that Mcmahon would induct former WWE Champion, the Ultimate Warrior into the WWE Hall of Fame, marking her first on screen appearance since 2009.
