GREENWICH, Conn. -- Happy Birthday To Greenwich’s Donald M. "Don" Kendall!

Kendall, who has owned a home in Greenwich, turns 95 on Wednesday. The businessman and political adviser was born March 16, 1921, in Sequim, Wash.

Donald Mcintosh "Don" Kendall joined Pepsi-Cola Co. as a sales representative and rose through the ranks, becoming a marketing vice president in 1956. He headed up Pepsi's international operations in 1957 and became president in 1963. He also served as CEO of PepsiCo from 1971 to 1986.

In 1963, he made the decision to change the name of Pepsi's diet soda from Patio Diet Cola to Diet Pepsi.

He brought Pepsi to Russia and was awarded the Order of Friendship by Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2004.

He oversaw the creation of the Donald M. Kendall Sculpture Gardens, which includes gardens, trails and parks. The collection of art, primarily 20th-century sculpture, includes works by Rodin, Wynn and Calder. it is located at PepsiCo's corporate headquarters in Purchase, N.Y.
