GREENWICH, Conn. -- Happy Birthday To Greenwich’s Craig Swan!

Craig Steven Swan, who owns a home in Greenwich, turns 65 Monday. The former New York Mets pitcher was born Nov. 30, 1950, in Van Nuys, Calif.

Swan was picked by the St. Louis Cardinals at the age of 17 in the 23rd round of the 1968 Major League Baseball Draft and later chosen by the Mets in the third round of the 1972 draft.

He was a Major League Baseball pitcher from 1973-84 for the New York Mets and California Angels. His best season came in 1978 when he posted a 9–6 record and led the National League with an earned run average of 2.43. He was named the International League Most Valuable Pitcher in 1975.

As numerous injuries forced an early end to his career, he used his medical knowledge, obtained from his ordeals, in developing the technique known as Rolfing and after graduating from the Rolf Institute in Boulder, Colo., he opened a practice in Connecticut.
