George Arthur Foster turns 67 Tuesday.

George Arthur Foster, who owns a home in Greenwich, turns 67 Tuesday. The baseball outfielder was born Dec. 1, 1948, in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Foster was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the third round of the 1968 Major League Baseball Draft and played in Major League Baseball from 1969-86.

In his baseball career, he played with San Francisco Giants (1969–71), Cincinnati Reds (1971–81), New York Mets (1982–86) and Chicago White Sox (1986).

He was one of the most feared right-handed sluggers and a key piece of the Cincinnati Reds' "Big Red Machine" that won consecutive World Series in 1975 and 1976.

He led the National League in home runs in 1977 and 1978 and in RBIs in 1976, 1977, and 1978. He won the NL's Most Valuable Player Award in 1977, a Silver Slugger Award in 1981 and two World Series champions. He was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 2002 and into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame in 2003.

He operates a nonprofit organization that supports children of military families and who live in inner-city neighborhoods. He also sponsors baseball camps for children.
