FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Happy Birthday To Fairfield’s John Mayer!
Mayer, who grew up in Fairfield, turns 36 on Wednesday. He was born Oct. 16, 1977, in Bridgeport, Conn.
He began his career performing mainly acoustic rock, but gradually began a transition towards the blues genre in 2005 by collaborating with renowned blues artists.
His first two studio albums, Room for Squares (2001) and Heavier Things (2003), did well commercially and achieved multi-platinum status.
At the 49th Annual Grammy Awards in 2007, he won Best Pop Vocal Album for Continuum and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for "Waiting on the World to Change". He also won Grammy Awards many time in 2003, 2005 & 2009.
He has sold more than 10 million albums in the U.S. and 20 million albums worldwide.
His career pursuits have extended to comedy, graphic design, television hosting and writing. Mayer has written pieces for magazines, most notably for Esquire, and also involved in philanthropic activities through charity work and various environmental causes.
