Greenwich's 'Time for Lyme' Gala Raises Over $850K For Research

GREENWICH, Conn. – Several local and national celebrities joined in a recent “Time for Lyme” gala in Greenwich that raised over $850,000 for research into tick-borne diseases.

Heather Thomson of “Real Housewives,” FOX News personality Gretchen Carlson, WABC-TV senior meteorologist Bill Evans, and U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) were among those who participated in the event, according to a press release from the Stamford-based Global Lyme Alliance.

Carlson, a Greenwich resident who hosts “The Real Story with Gretchen Carlson,” served as the mistress of ceremonies for the second consecutive year.

“We are extremely grateful to our sponsors, volunteers, donors, friends and families who made this year’s gala such a success,” Robert Kobre, chairman of the Global Lyme Alliance, said in a press release.

Greenwich residents Amy Marisa Balducci and Riann Smith co-chaired the event, which was held Saturday, April 11, at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich.

Dr. John N. Aucott received a Lauren F. Brooks Hope Award for his work as principal investigator for the innovative Study of Lyme Disease Immunology and Clinical Events (SLICE) research project.

Aucott practices medicine in Maryland, and is a founder and past president of the Lyme Disease Research Foundation.

Jane Green of Westport, an author of 15 New York Times best-selling books, received a Star Light Award for he work as an advocate in the fight against Lyme disease. 

Green had symptoms for more than two years before she was diagnosed with Lyme disease. She still deals with the effects of tick-borne disease, but says she now has “far more good days than bad” and enjoys a “really full life.”
