In partnership with neighborhood supermarkets, JFS representatives and volunteers will be stationed across the community to raise awareness and funding for the Supermarketing for Seniors program. It is a nondenominational free grocery shopping and case management service designed to meet the physical, emotional and social needs of housebound Greenwich citizens 60 years of age or older.

Supermarketing for Seniors has served  elderly neighbors of Greenwich since 1986. The program provides shopping and support services to 180 seniors each year.

Although the program has no income requirements, 98 percent of the seniors for whom the group shops are considered low income by Community Development Block Grant guidelines. Many do not have other support systems in their lives to visit and monitor them on a regular basis.

Community members can visit Supermarketing for Seniors Celebrates Grandparents Day booths anytime between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.  At each booth, community members can show their support for the program. A $20 donation will support a week’s worth of shopping for a senior.

All stations will have program information, free balloons and postcards that individuals can send to a senior in their own life to wish them a happy Grandparents Day.

The booth locations are as follows:

  • A&P in Central Greenwich, 160 W. Putnam Ave.
  • A&P in Riverside, 1261 E. Putnam Ave.
  • Kings in Old Greenwich, 26 Arcadia Road
  • Stop & Shop in Glenville, 11 Glen Ridge Road
  • Whole Foods, 90 E. Putnam Ave. (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.)
  • The Senior Center, 299 Greenwich Ave.
