Greenwich Teen Receives Outstanding Volunteer Honor

GREENWICH, Conn. – Jenny Cespedes, a Teen Club member of the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich has been named an “Outstanding Teen Volunteer” by Moffly Media, which produces Fairfield County-specific publications like Greenwich Magazine .

Cespedes will be honored at Moffly Media’s fifth annual “Light a Fire Awards” at Greenwich Academy’s Massey Theater from 6:30-9 p.m. Nov. 29. The event celebrates Fairfield County’s nonprofit and philanthropic leaders.

Cespedes, 16, has been a Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich member since age 6. An honor roll student, Cespedes is a captain on the Greenwich High School girls' basketball team and also plays for the varsity volleyball squad. She participates in multiple activities at the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich, including involvement with Greenwich Cardinal Keystone, a leadership club for teens, ages 14-18 that focuses on academic success, career preparation and community service.

Cespedes also continued her volunteer work at the club while her mother, a cancer survivor, was receiving treatments for the disease.

“She is great with children and genuinely cares about giving back to the community,” said the club's teen coordinator, Melissa Hawkins. “We are proud that Moffly Media has chosen to recognize her and that the community will see how truly special she is.”

The event, sponsored by Wells Fargo Advisors, George N. Venizelos Managing Director-Investments and Abbey Tent, will feature an awards presentation preceded by cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. A portion of the proceeds raised from ticket sales will benefit the Fairfield County Community Foundation.
