Greenwich Police Receive 9/11 Motorcycle

GREENWICH, Conn. – The Greenwich Police Department received a brand new Harley-Davidson motorcycle from America’s 9/11 Foundation after participating in a memorial ride.

America's 9/11 Foundation is a nonprofit group established in 2003 after two successful memorial 9/11 three-day rides. During this year’s ride, four Greenwich officers — Sgt. John Slusarz, Vincent Loria, Ron Carosella and Scott Johnson — volunteered to escort the riders to each destination.

The trip kicked off Friday, Aug. 19, at the Flight 93 National Memorial in Pennsylvania and continued in Arlington, Va., and the World Trade Center site in Manhattan. Greenwich police were contacted earlier this year to volunteer to escort the Northeast riders.

America’s 9/11 Foundation gives a motorcycle each year to a participating police department, and this year Greenwich won the prize.

Slusarz, of the traffic section of the department, said police plan to decorate the bike and use it as an educational tool during school talks. The Harley will be displayed in the lobby of the Public Safety Complex headquarters.
