Greenwich Library Holds Programs For Teens In March

GREENWICH, Conn. – Greenwich Library will hold several programs for teens throughout March including teen tech week, gaming day, showing the independent film "Haze" and more.

On Thursdays, March 5 and 19 at 7 p.m., Student Leadership Council Meeting Students in grades 7-12 gather at Teen Central on the second floor to brainstorm about using library resources to initiate and execute projects relevant to their peer group in exchange for community service hours. Refreshments will be served.
Friday, March 6 at 7 p.m., Friday Night Chess National Master Rich Jackson will provide instruction, supervise play and challenge students to an occasional match.
Sunday, March 8 from 2 p.m. to 3:15 p.m., Teen Tech Week: Introduction to Python Kicking off Teen Tech Week at the library, where the Student Leadership Council hosts a brief one-hour introduction to the Python programming language for students in grades 7-12. Register using the library’s online calendar.
Tuesday, March 10 at 7 p.m. the library will show "Haze." It is an eye-opening documentary about youth alcohol abuse with a local connection – the tragic story of Greenwich native Lynn Gordon Bailey Jr. The movie spotlights the issues of binge drinking, alcohol fueled hazing rituals and rapid fire drinking games. It will be screened in the Cole Auditorium and will be followed by facilitated discussion. The movie contains graphic images and nudity and is suitable for parents and high school-aged students only.
Thursday, March 12 at 6:30 p.m., Teen Tech Week's movie is "X-Men: Days of Future Past." As part of Teen Tech Week, the Student Leadership Council will host a showing of the movie.
Saturday, March 14 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Gaming day will have video games, board games and Legos available for all ages.
Thursday, March 26 at 4:30 p.m., the Middle School Book Club is for literature fans in grades 6-8. This month’s title is "The Final Four" by Paul Volponi. Register for the program and pick up a copy of the book at the second floor reference desk.

Other library programs of interest to students and parents include Saturdays in March, from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.; and Student Tech Support Orientation, which is offered to students wanting to volunteer at Greenwich Library.
