Greenwich Historical Society Celebrates Open House Day

GREENWICH, Conn. -- The Greenwich Historical Society will celebrate Connecticut Open House Day with a full slate of activities of family-oriented activities.

The event takes place from noon to 4 p.m. on June 13 at the Greenwich Historical Society’s Bush-Holley Historic site, 39 Strickland Road, Cos Cob.

Artist Carol Nipomnich Dixon will lead a workshop from noon to 2 p.m. on designing two-dimensional collages crafted from papers, fabrics, photographs, found objects and natural materials. Dixon will provide guidance on how to juxtapose color, texture and imagery to create original and personal visual statements.

All art supplies will be provided, but participants are asked to bring copies of favorite photos or other items to incorporate into their work. The workshop will take place in the Vanderbilt Education Center and is open to all ages.

Visitors can experience a "box-hunt" at the Storehouse Gallery, where they will receive clues and a personal log before searching the Bush-Holley property to find a hidden letterbox. Visitor’s following the clue’s path will learn the historic significance of the site.

Tours of Bush-Holley House will take place at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. Greenwich Voices, an "audio exhibition" where visitors can tune in to hear diverse reflections on life in Greenwich, will also be open throughout the event.

Bobby Q’s Pit Stop of Riverside will be on site for those working up an appetite.
