Their contribution surpassed the previous benchmark of $16,000.

The Zaccagnini Family gathered donations at Dougie’s Stand By, co-owned by Douglas and Steven. This Port Chester, N.Y., staple, which serves famous Dougie Dogs and Godfather sandwiches, also annually sponsors Alzheimer’s Day.

Next year’s event will be held on Sept. 20, when all proceeds will benefit the Connecticut chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Barbara will also sponsor the upcoming Greenwich Gala, Celebrating Hope 2015. The third annual event will take place on Friday, May 1, at Richards of Greenwich.

“I am really trying to grow this effort and be helpful, since this disease hits home for so many people,” said Barbara.

The Alzheimer’s Association's Connecticut chapter sponsors a support group for caregivers in Greenwich. Meetings are held at Greenwich Hospital Center for Healthy Aging on Thursday afternoons.
