GREENWICH, Conn. The Burton family of Greenwich has pledged $1 million to the Breast Cancer Alliance's research and medical efforts.
Robert and Paula Burton have already given $450,000 and plan to complete the donation in the next two or three years, the organization said in a statement.
This disease affects so many in our workplace and our community, and we are honored to contribute to advances in breast cancer education and treatment," the Burtons said in the statement.
The donation will fund research and provide free mammograms in southern Connecticut and Westchester County, N.Y.
Robert Burton, one of the Breast Cancer Alliance's first corporate sponsors, is chairman and CEO of Cenveo Inc. of Stamford and founder of Burton Capital Management LLC in Greenwich. Paula Burton served on the alliance's board of directors from 2001 to 2003.
The Breast Cancer Alliance was founded in Greenwich in 1996. It says it is now the fourth largest private, noncorporate organization providing funds for breast cancer research in the United States.
